He wants to know what happened but he hardly knew his own son because he left years ago. Thus he starts a journey back to a city he once lived, a journey of paternal exploration and confession.

Wang's first feature The Days (1993) was acclaimed but the distribution was banned in China. In 1995, he directed Frozen under an alias and the censored So Close to Paradise which took three years of re-editing to be approved for a (limited) screening in China. His other works include Beijing Bicycle (2001 Berlin Silver Bear Award winner), Drifters, Shanghai Dreams (2005 Cannes Jury Prize winner) and In Love We Trust (2008 Berlin Silver Bear Award winner).
